Easter Weekend

Oh, what a grand week it has been!

Wednesday, a bunch of us went over to Bridget's apartment in celebration of her birthday and we just sat around having a good time, talking, watching 90's boy bands music videos (which, dear Jesus, sometimes I have no idea what we were thinking as far as fashion goes...), drinking, and eating cake.

Thursday, we went to this place called Gruel for dinner, where the food was overpriced for what it was but the atmosphere was pretty fantastic. Plus, they actually refilled our water on more than one occasion, so that was refreshing. Then we went over to this legit pub, Stag's Head, for some live music (by some very attractive young musicians) and pints of Guinness.

Friday, Alex, Janelle and I had a movie night, of some odd sorts. We finished watching Sex and the City, which is surprisingly a very good movie. Then, we got halfway through Goodfellas when the dvd stopped playing and we couldn't get it past that point. It was frustrating because I want to see if Joe Pesci's character dies (which I hope he does, because he might be the most annoying character!) and what happens to Ray Liota. Then we began flipping through the channels and found The Patriot so watched the last 3/4 of that movie, and I can finally say I've seen the whole thing. I loved it, but that scene with the church is horrible.

Saturday, Janelle and I decided to go explore the city of Dublin, as it had been a while. And guess what?! Spring Time Is Here!!! It is supposed to get up to 56 degrees tomorrow! You could color me a little excited! That means just a sweatshirt, as opposed to a long sleeve shirt and jacket and scarf! Anyways, the flowers are in bloom at St. Stephen's Green and it was such a sight to see!
[These are my favorite!][On our way over to Dublin Castle, we passed these people that were playing tribal-like music with dancers. It was, interesting, to say the least.]
[Dublin Castle:]
[When you first walk in.]
["Waiting Room" while you wait for the tour guide.]
[Drawing Room.]

[Dining Room; sorry, I couldn't quite fit the long table in because it could seat eight. However, it could expand to seat 16 if requested!]
[Meeting Room of some sort. I can't really remember.]
[The grandest hallway I've ever seen!]
[Where the debutantes waited to be escorted into the ballroom. Sometimes they didn't get picked so they couldn't even go to the ball. God bless Women's Rights.]
[The Throne Room.]
[Note the Princess Crown-shaped mirrors.]
[This chandelier weighs just under a ton. They had to cut off one of the layers because it was causing too much ceiling damage.]
[The Ballroom.]
[The foundations under Dublin Castle. Those walls date back to the Vikings time.]
Easter! A bunch of got together for an Easter Morning Brunch.
[This is almost all of our collection minus the amazing French Toast Casserole. Yummy in the Tummy.]
[Janelle and Kt. I'm sorry for making the same kissy smirk in every picture. It's my thing.]
Then we headed over to Christ Church Cathedral for their Chorale service. While it is the Church of Ireland (similar to Protestant) it seemed to have a lot of Catholic influences: like the swinging of the smelly thingy. And there was no sermon or communion. It was a little weird, but an experience, non-the-less.
[Christ Church Cathedral.]

[That night, apparently it is the big thing to go out since no one has work the next day (a Europe thing). Plus, it was Alex's 21st Birthday the next day. It was beyond an awesome night!]

Monday, I made Alex's Birthday cake and we went over to her place, played card games, Jello shot Pong (as opposed to Beer Pong), and talked for a while. It truly was an awesome end for an awesome weekend.
[Alex and her birthday cake. Those are Cadburry Chocolate bars, called Moro. Quite possibly the greatest candy ever made...]

I leave Thursday for Northern Ireland, God help me, and return Sunday!
Then, I'll only have two more weeks of school and have all of May off to travel (besides writing my essay's, of course) and more likely see the stuff around Dublin. There is a 95% chance I'm going to Scotland near the very end of my semester abroad.
But let's just be honest, I really don't want to leave.

  2. Wow, the city looks absolutely gorgeous with the spring flowers. I am Happy to hear that the weather is finally warming up. Great job on the cake but it does look a filling thou. Good job on the picture taking again, maybe some close ups on the flowers next time. I hope you stay friends and connected with the girls you have traveled with because it sounds like maybe you have developed some close relationships. Make Scotland happen.
    Love you

  3. I can't believe you're only going to wear a sweatshirt when it's only in the fifties! You really have changed. :-) I'm not sure I'll recognize you when you get back!

  4. Katie,
The flowers look fabulous! Love the Spring! Glad that you got to go a cathedral church on Easter. I bet it was amazing inside; by the way the smelly stuff is called incense. Ha! Be safe and you know if you get a chance to go to Scottland, well you already know my vote on that, Yeh! Love you and be safe, Mom

  5. Hey, Katie:
I love the pictures and the commentary. I can picture all those things in my mind. Gpa is in rehab and starting to walk on his own some and learning to stand up straight!
Be safe and enjoy everything you can. Oh, and, study also. We know you will.
    Love ya, Gpa and Gma
